For those of ya who haven't had the pleasure of reading every bodys Buddy Hermit Jim you should.Jim keeps up with all the bad in the world but tends to focus on the good, which for a Doomer like me is refreshing I tend to get caught in all the bad news.

Today Jim had a cool post on the infamous Black Bart from the old west.It got me thinking about cap guns, cowboys n Injuns, tonka trucks and earth movers, cartoons, etc. My Dad was a hard working man I didn't get to play as often as my buddies, and as a kid I used to hate it.As a grown (overgrown) man I now appreciate all my Dad taught me,I have skills most of my buddies never will,I have a strong work ethic. But childhood hasn't been thought about for a long time. The gun fights were cool we stayed out until they threatened to pull switches off the tree.If it wasn't cowboys n indians,it was world war II. I had an Uncle and Grandad that had been at someplace called Kooreea but we were to little to know about the brave men dying at places like Chosin. We was always Sgt's with tough names like Mack and Joe or Charlie me I liked Rock remember Sgt Rock comic books.
Don't let your kids grow up to fast. Some folks seem to rush theirs. There is plenty of time for grown up things.
Enjoy their childhoods with them,I know ya work and get tired and have grown up things to think about and take care of,but enjoy your children while they still are.
Be Prepared!

Hey Buddy...thanks for the plug! I often think back on the days of my childhood. Certainly happier times!
ReplyDeleteI can associate with the staying out until way past dark when my Dad would step outside and whistle! You could hear that whistle from just about anywhere in the neighborhood! That meant "time to come inside" and we knew better than to ignore it!
I miss those days of innocence sometimes!
Hah yep good times for sure!Funny now days ya hear people hollerin and cussing and the kids still don't mind em! If my Dad gave you the look, you better bet he didn't have to repeat it.Different times.

...yea,good times...we dug foxholes, crawled around the creeks and mud, pretended we were in the baddest bush on the planet...dad was in air force in korea, uncles there and in vietnam too...most of my mentors were boonie rats, dad was soft spoken but had "that look" you referred to...i still play guns with the boy and his buds, they love it,i dig it...they learn,i play, win win...
ReplyDelete...i remember playin'our version of survivor guy too, gone all day eating critters i'll never admit to,all the while pretending we were lost/stranded/last alive after whatever happened that day...skippin'school to go huntin'/fishin',man what a flood of memories...(end of ramble) good post Bro'
Good times for sure!

It saddens me that kids today don't even know how to "play". Too much Tv, video games and sitting on their butts eating junk food and getting fat. No wonder we have an obesity problem in this country.
ReplyDeleteWe could entertain ourselves for hours with nothing more than pine needles where I grew up.Building forts and houses and just enjoying being outside.
SciFi,so true all I hear is I'm bored.Kids these days have to be entertained.
